Awards night hosts Dash and D’Bree kicked off the evening with the first of many stunning performances. With songs including “Fierce” and “Don’t Touch My Hair” they slayed with dance moves like these.
John Cabrera emphasised the importance of a web series community in his keynote speech on Friday, a theme which ran through out the weekend.
Greenfield creator Daniel Tenni agreed in his acceptance speech for Best Australian drama.
Other creators who walked away with Melbourne WebFest Awards were Kate McLennan, Kate McCartney and Tasmin Simpkin from The Katering Show for Best Australian Comedy.
Which they seemed quite happy about.
The winner of the ABC iview Pitch Perfect Competition was also announced with Jenny Wynter taking the prize for her pitch…
Jenny’s pitch, a viking mother living in present day suburbia, won her travel and accommodation to Marseille WebFest to attend their screenwriting residency sponsored by Fox Digital. Her reaction is priceless.
Best Leading Actor or Ensemble winners Aunty Donna, accepted their award with the humility and grace we have all come to expect from them.
They also handled their post award interview with seriousness and modesty.
On the other hand, Kate Madison creator of the Grand Jury Award winning series Ren, the Girl With the Mark, couldn’t have been more surprised when she took out the top award AND two all-expenses paid trips to LA WebFest and Marseille WebFest.
At the end of the night Hollywood Hitmen editor Damien Bodie hit up the media wall to drop some hard truths…
